About UK Plumbing Supplies

UK Plumbing Supplies is the largest network of independent plumbing and heating merchants in the UK. We don’t act like a massive corporate machine though, instead we operate on a simple scrap of logic: the people best placed to run a site are the ones standing in it.

Our sites run with genuine autonomy. We’ve stripped away the red tape and the centralised interference that slows most merchants down. Every UK Plumbing Supplies site is essentially its own independent business with the freedom to make its own decisions on pricing, stock, and how to treat its customers. This gives us the agility of a small local merchant with the massive stability and backing of a UK wide leader.

Working with us

Because our sites operate independently, the atmosphere is entrepreneurial and engaging for everyone.

  • In a UK Plumbing Supplies site, everyone is a stakeholder. We don’t hire people to just sit in a silo. You are part of a team that has the power to make things happen instantly. There’s no waiting for "Head Office" permission to win a deal.
  • We don’t believe in nonsensical KPIs or corporate box-ticking. We offer an industry-leading profit share that rewards the effort the whole team puts in. If the site trades well, everyone shares in that success. It’s a straightforward deal: hard work is incentivised, not penalised by arbitrary metrics.
  • We promote based on merit and commercial sense, not how long you’ve sat at a desk. If you’ve got a strong work ethic and you’re willing to learn how a business actually makes money, you’ll move up quickly.

We’re looking for people who want to be more than just a number on a payroll. If you want to work in an environment where you actually see the results of your work, UK Plumbing Supplies is the place to be.

  • Training and mentoring from experienced colleagues

Entry and Progression

You don't need loads of experience, just the right attitude. If you're organised, curious, and willing to get stuck in, an apprenticeship here sets you up for the next step. That could be on the sales counter, internal sales, or part of our showroom team - it all depends on where your strengths lie and what you enjoy most during your training. We'll help guide that progression, so you're not just learning a role, you're building a future that fits you.

Saul House

Trade Supplier Level 2

It's been surprising to learn how many different poducts that we stock. Before starting I wouldn’t have guessed there were so many different brands and items.

Phoenix Truman

Trade Supplier Level 2

I chose an Apprenticeship because I wanted to start making money and gain practical experience, rather than waste my time with a college course that I wasn't passionate about.

Tilly Brackett

Fitted Furniture Design Level 3

I chose an apprenticeship because I wanted to get a head start in my career while also gaining a recognised qualification. The Level 3 certificate was a big part of it, but more than that I find learning on the job far more useful than going to university. I can actually see how things work day to day, rather than just reading about it in a book.

Commercial Development Programme

Start in sales. Learn the business. Build your future.

Our Commercial Development Programme gives ambitious, hands-on people the opportunity to build a commercial career by learning how our business operates - and how sales, service, margin and stock performance work together to drive success.

You'll be part of a fast-paced sales environment, developing real customer relationships, building confidence in your decision-making, and learning what it takes to succeed commercially. You'll gain valuable sales experience while building a solid foundation for future career growth.

Who It's For

  • Graduates from any discipline
  • Individuals with 3+ years of work experience looking to move into commercial sales

It's ideal for people who want to grow beyond a standard sales role - those who are looking to take ownership, develop commercially, and eventually lead a team or Business Unit of their own. If you're driven, people-focused, and not afraid to get stuck in, this is a great place to build a career.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a full-time, permanent sales role with structured development built in. You could be getting stuck into any of the following:

  • Supporting trade counter and telephone-based sales
  • Handling pricing, product availability and delivery queries
  • Working to identify Accounts that need developing
  • Managing customer relationships across a range of accounts
  • Learning how sales performance connects to wider business operations
  • Working alongside experienced Business Managers and sales professionals to understand how success is built and measured
  • Gaining professional, industry-recognised skills through structured courses alongside your in-site experience

Your Development Journey

You'll kick things off in the warehouse - the best place to get hands-on with our products and understand exactly what we sell. By working directly with the stock, you'll quickly get to grips with its features, uses, and applications. This practical know-how is the foundation for giving customers the right advice and support.

Once you've mastered the product basics and know how the business runs, you'll move to the sales counter. This is where your confidence grows, your selling skills take shape, and your formal sales training begins. You'll also spend time shadowing different parts of the business - from the Commercial Team to the Service Centre - to see how everything fits together to deliver for our customers.

When you're consistently winning sales, you'll take charge of your own accounts - strengthening existing relationships, finding new opportunities, and hitting your targets. Your Business Manager and Regional Director will then work with you to steer your development towards the areas where you can make the biggest impact.

No two days here are the same. One day you might be hosting a golf event or a breakfast for customers, the next at a supplier trade day or industry event. It's fast-paced, varied, and genuinely rewarding - and with our company-wide Profit Share scheme, the success you help create comes straight back to you.

Jake Mathot

Commercial Trainee
For anyone thinking of applying, this is a fantastic first step in the industry and sales. Should you show passion and dedication, you will progress in no time as everyone will be behind you to succeed. The most important thing for anyone starting is to gain insight into what everyone in the business does - you'll realise just how valuable each and every role is!

Charlie Phillips

Commercial Trainee
I was drawn to the business after seeing its success during COVID when others were struggling. Their determination to keep driving business inspired confidence, and from my first interview it was clear everyone believed in the business model and its potential to achieve big things

Ben Slater

Business Unit Manager
My proudest moment was definitely being promoted Business Unit Manager after working as an assistant manager in a challenging location. It showed the companies trust in me and that they were willing to back me and give me the opportunity to take on full responsibility.
